Walt Weiss, manager of the Atlanta Braves, was named a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year Award by MLB Network on Monday. The announcement places Weiss in contention for the individual honor alongside Don Mattingly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Weiss assumed the managerial role earlier this year after the Braves promoted him from bench coach. He took over following the retirement of Brian Snitker, who left after a 76-win season in which Atlanta missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. Under Weiss, the team finished with 94 wins and secured its first National League East title since 2023.
The Braves entered the postseason as the No. 3 seed. The team defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Wild Card Series, winning two of three games at Truist Park. Atlanta subsequently lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a five-game National League Division Series.
Pat Murphy is seeking a third consecutive Manager of the Year award. The winner of this year's award will be announced on November 10. The same date marks the announcement for the National League Cy Young Award, where Chris Sale of the Braves is a finalist. Sale is competing for a second Cy Young Award, with the recipient to be named on November 11.
