Champions League standings shifted on Wednesday as several European clubs posted mixed results in the ongoing league phase.
AS Roma fell 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford, marking their second late collapse in the competition. The team had previously surrendered a 3-1 lead to Real Madrid at the Stadio Olimpico last month. Roma now holds four points from four matches and prepares for a difficult away trip to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. With four games remaining in the league phase, the squad faces pressure to secure a top-eight finish to avoid a two-legged playoff in February.
Atletico Madrid sits in a slightly stronger position than Roma under Diego Simeone. The club lost to Liverpool and Bayern Munich but defeated Manchester United in Madrid. Their upcoming schedule includes home or away matches against Viking, PSV, and Bodo/Glimt before a final away leg against Fenerbahce. Analysts suggest Atletico should aim for a top-16 finish to maintain their competitive standing in the tournament.
Inter Milan reversed its early struggles after losing to Real Madrid and Club Brugge. The Nerazzurri won their next two matches, including a 3-0 victory at Feyenoord. That win followed a 3-1 Derby della Madonnina loss to AC Milan, which had raised questions about manager Cristian Chivu. Inter will next host Stuttgart at San Siro, then travel to Borussia Dortmund, host Liverpool in Milan, and finish the phase against Slavia Prague.
Manchester United ended its losing streak with the victory over Roma, though manager Michael Carrick faces a demanding schedule. The Red Devils must visit Sporting CP and Villarreal while hosting RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. The November international break will provide a brief pause before these critical fixtures. Current standings indicate that only the top eight teams advance directly to the knockout rounds, while clubs finishing ninth through 24th will compete in a playoff.
