Charlotte Hornets fans left Spectrum Center Monday night after their team lost 124-91 to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons won their third straight game, capping a dominant performance that saw them lead for nearly the entire contest.
Cade Cunningham set a season high with 33 points. He shot 13 of 20 from the field and recorded seven assists, five steals, and five rebounds in just three quarters. Cunningham did not play in the fourth quarter. Duncan Robinson added 24 points, including six three-pointers.
The Pistons built an 11-point lead by halftime. They extended that advantage to 23 points by the end of the third quarter, scoring 98 points in the first three periods. Detroit made 13 of their first 24 three-point attempts. In the fourth quarter, Robinson and Kevin Huerter hit back-to-back threes to push the lead to 29 points. Hornets coach Charles Lee emptied his bench before the game ended.
Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 17 points. Naz Reid added 13. The team struggled to find offensive rhythm, even with the season debut of point guard Coby White.
White, who has been filling the void left by LaMelo Ball this offseason, missed the first seven games with a calf strain. He scored seven points on 3-of-8 shooting in 16 minutes. Lee said White will remain on a minutes restriction for the foreseeable future. The coach also said guard Kon Knueppel, last season's leading three-point shooter and NBA rookie of the year runner-up, is expected to return soon.
The Pistons will host Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The Hornets will play at Brooklyn on the same night.
