The Atlanta Braves exercised two contract options on Thursday, securing the services of Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies for an additional season each.
The club activated the 17 million dollar option for Acuña and the 7 million dollar option for Albies. Acuña, a five time All Star and the 2023 National League Most Valuable Player, signed a 100 million dollar, eight year deal in 2019. That original contract included a 17 million dollar option for 2027 with a 10 million dollar buyout clause, followed by a second 17 million dollar option for 2028 that carries no buyout provision.
Albies, a four time All Star from Curaçao, signed a 35 million dollar, seven year contract in 2019. The agreement contained 7 million dollar options for 2026 and 2027, raising the total value to 45 million dollars over nine seasons.
The 28 year old Venezuelan outfielder finished the season batting .255 with 20 home runs, 55 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. He missed time due to a left hamstring strain from May 2 to May 19 and again from June 10 to July 27.
The 29 year old shortstop posted career lows with a .237 average, 22 home runs, and 73 runs batted in. He was one of seven players who appeared in all 162 regular season games for the team.
