Dan Hurley will continue to coach the UConn men's basketball team for at least two more years. The university announced Friday that the head coach signed a two-year contract extension, which keeps him under contract through the 2031-32 season. His annual salary remains approximately $8 million per year.

Hurley reached this point after a season that ended with a national title appearance. In March, he guided the team to the championship game, marking the third Final Four appearance of his career. He became the youngest active head coach to reach the Final Four three times and the only coach in this millennium to reach three title games within a four-year span.

The coach has spent eight years rebuilding the program into a national contender. He holds a record of 199 wins and 75 losses with the Huskies. He is one of three coaches to win consecutive national championships since the John Wooden era. His previous contract was signed in 2024 after UConn won back-to-back titles. At that time, he also declined an offer to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The new deal maintains his position as the second-highest-paid coach in college basketball. According to a USA Today database of public schools, he trails only Bill Self of Kansas in annual compensation. The extension provides stability during a period of frequent changes in college athletics.

UConn athletic director David Benedict praised the coach's impact on the program. Benedict stated that Hurley has proven to be the best coach in men's college basketball. He noted that the teams reflect the university's values of resilience and competitive excellence. Benedict emphasized the importance of continuity in the current era of college sports.

Hurley expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coach at the University of Connecticut. He described the role as an honor and highlighted the support of the local community and his family. He stated that the team understands its responsibility to the people of Connecticut and its supporters. He promised to continue using a relentless approach to pursue championship-level success.

The fourth-ranked Huskies will open their season on Monday against Gardner-Webb. They have already won their recent exhibition games against Syracuse, Michigan State, and Purdue.
