The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series title on Wednesday.

The team defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 to close out the series in five games. Milwaukee won 11 of its 13 postseason contests this year. Rookie Cooper Pratt drove in two runs and collected two hits. Jacob Misiorowski pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. The Brewers had not won the championship since their last attempt in 1982.

Pratt extended his hitting streak to six consecutive at-bats. This performance broke the World Series record for a rookie previously held by Brian Doyle. Doyle set the mark with the New York Yankees in 1978. Pratt reached base via a single in the second inning and another single in the fifth. He recorded his sixth straight hit with a one-out single off Kevin Kelly. His streak ended with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

William Contreras contributed an RBI double. David Hamilton added a run-scoring single. This marked Hamilton’s fourth straight game with an RBI. The Brewers scored two runs in the sixth inning. Contreras hit a double off the left field wall to score Christian Yelich from first base. Pratt later hit a deep fly ball into foul territory. The ball was deep enough for Contreras to score from third base.

Misiorowski went 2-0 in the World Series. He allowed two hits and one walk. He struck out two batters. The pitcher left the game in the sixth inning due to a cramp in his right calf. Trevor Megill pitched the final two innings. He gave up an RBI double to Chandler Simpson with two outs in the ninth. Megill then induced Richie Palacios to ground out to second base for the final out.

Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen allowed one run on two hits over four innings. He struck out four batters and issued no walks. Brice Turang hit a one-out double. Turang scored two batters later after Pratt hit a first-pitch cutter into center field. The Rays created a scoring threat in the fourth inning. Chandler Simpson reached second base after a slight bobble by Sal Frelick. Misiorowski recorded a ground out from Ben Williamson to end the inning.

This marks the Brewers’ second World Series appearance. They lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games in 1982. The Rays are still without a championship. They lost World Series appearances in 2008 and 2020.
