The Chicago Bears are adding a proven pass rusher to a roster already sitting at 5-2. The Tennessee Titans agreed to trade defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to Chicago, according to Tom Pelissero of the Ringer, who reported the deal Thursday morning. Chicago will send two first-round picks to Tennessee to complete the transaction.

Simmons, who joined the league eight years ago, signed a three-year, $35.3 million extension with Tennessee and entered the 2026-27 season as the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL. Chicago assumes the remainder of that contract. The Bears currently rank among the league's stronger offensive units behind quarterback Caleb Williams and offensive play-caller Ben Johnson.

Last season, Simmons led the NFL in sacks with 11, pressures with 60, and turnovers caused by pressure with 5. The Associated Press voted him first-team All-Pro; he had previously made second-team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022. He has been named to the Pro Bowl four times and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

Through seven games this season, Simmons has recorded 38 total tackles, 4 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. His production arrived on a Tennessee team coached by Robert Saleh that has one win to its name at this point in the season.

In Chicago, Simmons lines up alongside Montez Sweat, his former Mississippi State teammate. The two played together in Starkville during the 2017 and 2018 seasons on a defensive front nicknamed the D-block under coaches Dan Mullen and Joe Moorhead. Simmons graduated from Noxubee County High School.

The Bears expect Simmons to be available for Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champion.
