Yeovil Manager Rowley Says Squad Development Surpassed Expectations
The Glovers sit fourth in the National League after 15 matches, with a new loan signing expected to cover for an injured defender ahead of Saturday's trip to Halifax.

Billy Rowley acknowledged on Thursday that Yeovil Town’s development this season has outpaced his initial projections. The manager stated that the team’s progression has been faster than he anticipated, a sentiment he shared while preparing for Saturday’s away match against FC Halifax Town.
Yeovil currently hold the fourth position in the National League table after completing 15 fixtures. The squad has recorded 50 goals across all competitions this season. This form follows a midweek victory over Hornchurch, where Yeovil won 2-1 to recover from their previous 1-2 defeat to Altrincham.
Rowley attributed the rapid improvement to the integration of a young group of players, many of whom arrived from divisions below the National League. He noted that while the current trajectory is positive, the team should expect occasional setbacks as they continue to build.
"It’s probably quicker than I thought, but equally I think we are going to see a couple of steps back here and there," Rowley said. "We’ve still got such a young group, a lot of boys who have come from a league or two below, so when we don’t perform to our maximum it’s about staying level-headed, realising we are not the finished product, going again, training hard and trying to improve all the time."
The manager also pointed to the growing cohesion within the dressing room. He observed that players who were largely strangers at the start of the season have formed strong relationships, contributing to a confident atmosphere in the camp.
"Results have been good, players are playing well and they are full of confidence and there are some really good relationships in the camp as well," he added.
Injury concerns have emerged ahead of the trip to West Yorkshire. Jordan Norville-Williams missed the Hornchurch match due to a hamstring issue and is expected to undergo further scanning. Rowley indicated that the physiotherapy team believes the injury is not severe, with a recovery window estimated between ten days and four weeks.
Norville-Williams joins Joy Mukena and Joe Haigh on the injury list. To address the defensive gap, Yeovil have signed Bristol City defender Seb Naylor on a loan deal through January. Naylor made a strong impression in his debut appearance, and Rowley said the new arrival fits seamlessly into the squad's possession-based style.
"Seb fitted in seamlessly," Rowley said. "He’s played in a really possession-based team his whole life, understands the positional concepts and has a great understanding of football. So he will fit seamlessly into this group and offer us a lot of different qualities."
Yeovil face Halifax, who sit in 10th place after a 3-2 loss to Barrow on Tuesday. The Glovers have won three of their last five league games, while Halifax have secured two wins, two draws, and one loss in the same span. Rowley expects a stylistically different challenge than the one presented by Hornchurch, noting that Halifax have established themselves as a top team in the division over the last few years.
