Donald Trump asked Jewish voters in Monsey, New York, to support Republican candidate Mike Lawler on Tuesday.
The president posted on Truth Social during the midterm election day. He noted that the Jewish community in Monsey and surrounding neighborhoods gave him strong support in the 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump described Lawler as a friend to the Jewish community and a leader in the fight against antisemitism. He stated that Lawler spoke out against hatred and supported religious freedom and school choice.
Lawler is running in a suburban New York district. Kamala Harris won this district in the 2024 election.
The endorsement comes amid rising tensions over antisemitic incidents in the state. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that antisemitic hate crimes increased by 8.5% by August 2026 compared to the previous year. This data came from the New York Police Department.
In the same period, shootings and murders in New York City fell to historic lows according to the same report. On Monday, four Jewish school buses in Williamsburg, New York, were spray-painted with antisemitic and anti-Zionist graffiti. The slogans included phrases like “F*** Israel” and “Free Palestine.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident abhorrent in a post on X. He said every New Yorker deserves to live free of such hatred. Mamdani noted that his team is in contact with the NYPD and community leaders to hold those responsible accountable.
