Bristol Rovers manager Steve Evans stated that he would accept a draw in his side's upcoming match against Fleetwood Town. The Gas are currently seeking to halt a difficult sequence of results while playing away from home. Evans emphasized the need for improved displays on the road, noting that the team has struggled to secure victories in recent fixtures.
Rovers travel to the Cod Army's ground this weekend. The team finished a five-game losing streak with a goalless draw against Swindon Town, but they remain without a win in their last six competitions. Their away record shows only one victory all season. That win came in August against Crawley Town, a 2-0 result over a struggling opponent.
Evans indicated that performance is the primary factor in securing results. He suggested that if the team plays well but leaves with no points, he would accept that outcome because current away form is poor. Evans said, "I'd take a draw, of course I'd take a point, because we're on a losing sequence away from home." He added that a 1-0 victory is the ideal scenario, but a shared spoils result is preferable to a loss.
The manager highlighted the upcoming FA Cup tie as a major fixture following the league game. He wants his players to produce a concentrated and disciplined effort at Fleetwood. Evans noted that the team has not consistently delivered such performances on the road. He stated, "For me, the FA Cup is special, but let's go to Fleetwood and let's put in, first and foremost, a concentrated, real disciplined, hard-working, honest, and genuine performance."
Scoring has been a challenge for Rovers in October, with the team managing just four goals during that period. Injuries and suspensions have affected the squad's depth. Ellis Harrison missed the recent Swindon match due to injury, while Tommy Leigh remains suspended for another game. Evans acknowledged that the team is not creating as many chances as they did earlier in the season.
Evans pointed out that key forwards like Fabrizio, Harrison, and Joe were previously generating three or four chances per game. He argued that the team must dictate play to score goals. "If we go to Fleetwood and make numerous chances, we've got a chance of winning the game," Evans said. The manager believes that high-intensity output is necessary to break through the opposition's defense.
Fleetwood Town currently sits behind Rovers in 18th place but carries momentum from a midweek Carabao Cup win. The Cod Army defeated Premier League champions Arsenal via a penalty shootout. Arsenal controlled the game with 78 percent possession and 37 shots on goal, yet Fleetwood found a way to win. Evans joked that Fleetwood will not sit in defensively against Rovers as they did against Arsenal.
A sell-out crowd attended the Arsenal match, sparking online discussion about attendance for the league fixture. Evans expressed confidence that Rovers fans would be present in large numbers. He stated that the team has let the club down on the road this season, contributing to a collective letdown. Evans believes in the personnel and stated, "We just need to stay in this pack to January, then we'll do what we need to do."
