The Milwaukee Brewers secured their first World Series title on Thursday, ending a 57-year wait for the franchise's top honor.

George Mustas, who will turn 94 in two weeks, kept a 66-year-old photograph of his brother's wedding inside his car door. The image shows Bob Uecker serving as a groomsman. Mustas and Uecker played baseball together as teenagers on a field near current Siefert Elementary School on Milwaukee's near north side.

After Uecker died in January 2025, Mustas shared stories of their youth, including Uecker eating raw corn while driving. Mustas said Uecker called him recently to discuss their time in the afterlife. In that conversation, Uecker claimed they play ball every day but noted that Mustas would be pitching the following day.

Mustas recalled a previous exchange with Uecker after the 1982 World Series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Uecker predicted a long wait for another championship, a prediction that held true for nearly four decades. Brewers manager Pat Murphy has included letters from Uecker in the team's recent postseason celebrations.

Reggie Bailey, 87, described the past year as a special period in her life. In July, she participated in a surprise meet-and-greet with outfielder Christian Yelich, a player she has long admired. Yelich served as the team's first captain and is its longest-tenured player.

Bailey displayed a commemorative newspaper cover celebrating the victory on Thursday. She expressed surprise at the image of outfielder Sal Frelick featured on the front page, stating that she expected Yelich to be the main focus of the celebration.
