Arizona DOT schedules five freeway closures for Halloween weekend
Multiple segments in the Phoenix metropolitan area will be inaccessible between Friday night and Monday morning for ongoing infrastructure projects.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced that drivers in the Phoenix Valley will face multiple freeway closures and ramp restrictions this weekend. These interruptions are part of ongoing improvement and pavement projects. Officials are urging motorists to plan their routes in advance and allow additional time for travel.
Southbound traffic on State Route 51 will be shut down between Cactus Road and Northern Avenue. This closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. During this period, southbound on-ramps between Bell Road and 26th Street will also be closed. The department suggests using southbound 7th Street as a detour to reconnect with the freeway.
Eastbound Loop 202, also known as the Santan Freeway, will close between McQueen and Cooper roads. The shutdown begins at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, and ends at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. On-ramps between Dobson Road and Arizona Avenue will be inaccessible. Drivers are advised to use eastbound Pecos or Germann roads to rejoin the freeway at Cooper or Gilbert roads.
Westbound Loop 101, the Agua Fria Freeway, will close between Interstate 17 and 51st Avenue. This section will be out of service from 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, until noon on Sunday, Nov. 1. Both northbound and southbound ramps from Interstate 17 to westbound Loop 101 will close. Additionally, westbound on-ramps between 7th Street and 7th Avenue will be restricted. Detour options include westbound Deer Valley Road or Union Hills Drive.
Eastbound Loop 303 will be closed between 43rd Avenue and Interstate 17 from 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. The recommended detour is to take northbound 43rd Avenue to eastbound Dove Valley Road to access southbound Interstate 17. Finally, the westbound frontage road on Interstate 10 will close between 91st and 99th avenues from Friday night until 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. Westbound McDowell Road is listed as the alternative route.
The department noted that these schedules may change due to inclement weather or other operational factors.
