Monroe City Hall Incident: Man Arrested for Lewd Act

Monroe police arrested a 25-year-old man on Thursday for engaging in a lewd act inside the City Hall lobby.

Employees in the clerk's office first observed the unusual behavior at approximately 2 p.m. The man was seated just outside the office area on East First Street. Staff members contacted Monroe County Central Dispatch to report the incident.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the suspect, whom they noted was familiar to law enforcement. The man admitted to the officers that he was conducting himself inappropriately. Investigators subsequently interviewed several witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the building to verify the reports.

Records indicate the suspect was serving a probation term for aggravated indecent exposure at the time of the incident. He was taken into custody for both a probation violation and a new charge of aggravated indecent exposure. He was lodged at the Monroe County Jail following his arrest.

The Monroe Public Safety Department issued a statement recognizing the City Clerk's Office staff for their prompt action in notifying law enforcement. The report also encouraged the public to contact local agencies if they observe behavior that raises concern, rather than attempting to intervene themselves.

The man remains in custody pending further processing for the new charges and the violation of his existing probation terms.
