Democrats Target 7 Key Areas for Congressional Investigations
New congressional leadership plans to use subpoena powers to probe Epstein, immigration, and executive spending.

Democratic leaders in the 120th Congress have outlined a seven-part plan to investigate the Trump administration using the full investigatory powers of the legislature. With control of both the House and Senate, lawmakers intend to subpoena records and compel testimony from administration officials and private figures. The agenda targets areas ranging from the Jeffrey Epstein files to the use of executive orders for infrastructure projects.
The Epstein investigation is a primary focus. Democrats argue that the Justice Department withheld or redacted key documents related to the late convicted sex offender. They plan to probe ties between Epstein and other powerful individuals, including the president. Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland said, "Evidence involving 11 women tells a completely different and far more damning story about their relationship." The president has long denied wrongdoing, stating their relationship ended before Epstein was indicted in 2016.
Lawmakers also plan to scrutinize public corruption and the financial interests of the president and his family. Targets include Truth Social, cryptocurrency projects, and overseas ventures involving the president's sons. Rep. Robert Garcia, expected to chair the House Oversight Committee, stated in a recent opinion piece that "Millions of dollars in dark money are flowing throughout our political system." He linked these financial maneuvers to the current cost of living crisis.
Immigration enforcement is another major target. Democrats intend to hold hearings on incidents of alleged abuse by federal agents, following the deaths of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota. In October, the party held a field hearing in Austin, Texas, regarding shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington described ICE as a "lawless, rogue agency" that causes generational trauma in communities.
The administration's public health strategies will face review, with specific attention on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Democrats previously released a report claiming the administration undermined public health infrastructure and scientific research into chronic diseases. They plan to continue this work in the new term.
Executive projects and war powers are also on the list. Congress will review spending on White House renovations, a new arch, and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Lawmakers will also press Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the cost of the U.S. military campaign in Iran. The legislature has the sole authority to declare war, a power not yet exercised for the current conflict.
Finally, Democrats will examine federal funding awarded to Elon Musk's businesses. They want to verify if companies meet contractual obligations and if safeguards prevent political interference. The group also plans to investigate the Department of Government Efficiency, which cut the workforce but did not achieve its promised trillion dollars in savings.
