A San Francisco estate sold for $10m above its list price this month.
The eight-bedroom home on Cherry Street in Presidio Wall went on the market at $18.5m on 2 October and closed at $28.5m on 22 October, according to the listing. The sale marks a record for the city. Built in 1966, the house was designed by Whisler-Patri, a firm SF Gate called one of San Francisco's "most active architectural offices." The property includes a private garden and a three-car garage.
AI industry pay has pushed up housing costs across the city, and even people earning six-figure incomes can struggle to find housing. Competition is strongest at the top of the market. In the first six months of 2026, more than 140 San Francisco homes sold for $1m or more above asking price, compared with eight in the same period a year earlier, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing Compass data. In September, almost 92% of single-family homes sold above asking price.
The Cherry Street property stayed with one family for more than 40 years. Janice R Lurie Trust and Robert A Lurie Trust handled the sale, the San Francisco Business Times reported. Robert Lurie once owned the San Francisco Giants.
