President Donald Trump appeared at a rally in Corinth, Mississippi, on Monday to campaign for Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, who is defending her seat against Democrat Scott Colom. Trump's voice was hoarse as he addressed the crowd. "I'm here because Cindy's doing great, but I just got to make sure. I can't take a chance," Trump said.

Colom, a local prosecutor, was seen at the rally site before Trump spoke. From the stage, Trump called Colom a "Marxist radical," a "fake" and a "shameless phony who pretends to be a moderate." Colom said he had planned to go to the site to hear from voters. "They actually deserve a senator that will listen to them, that actually cares about what they think, actually cares about what they're going through," Colom said ahead of Trump's arrival.

Hyde-Smith is seeking her second full term in a state Trump has won three times by an average of nearly 20 points. Democrats have not won a Mississippi Senate race since 1982, when John Stennis won reelection. Colom would be Mississippi's first Black senator since Reconstruction. The Senate Democrats' super PAC has put $1.2 million into the contest.

The Mississippi stop opened a week of rallies for Trump. He plans to visit Texas, South Carolina and Iowa, states he won in 2024, and is set to hold a rally Saturday in Salina, Kansas. That marks his second trip to Kansas in under two weeks.

Vice President JD Vance campaigned Monday in north Topeka at a steel-fabricating company warehouse for Sen. Roger Marshall, who faces Democratic nominee and pastor Adam Hamilton. Democrats have not won a Kansas Senate race since 1932. Vance had earlier been in Belgrade, Montana, with Republican Aaron Flint and Senate candidate Kurt Alme.

More than 30 million voters have already cast ballots, according to data The Associated Press collected from election administrators. Sen. Tim Scott, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told the AP on Monday that GOP candidates are "closing very strongly" in races across the country. Trump is scheduled to visit South Carolina to campaign for GOP Sen. Darline Graham.

In Michigan, Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's campaign said an ad from Rebellion PAC is "not affiliated in any way" with his race. The ad ties grocery prices to U.S. support for Israel. U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, who lost to El-Sayed in the primary, wrote on X that the way to win Michigan "is not by blaming the high costs of our goods on the only Jewish homeland in the world." In New York, Rep. Mike Lawler, facing Democrat Cait Conley in the northern suburbs, worked a McDonald's drive-thru.
