Olivia Rodrigo played the first of two scheduled Schottenstein Center dates on Oct. 29, performing at 555 Borror Dr. in Columbus as part of The Unraveled Tour, which supports her June 12 studio album "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love." The Grammy Award-winning pop singer-songwriter is set for a second Columbus performance Friday at 7 p.m., according to the venue's website.
The tour is structured around the four seasons, moving through spring, summer, fall and winter before returning to spring, a sequence that mirrors the album's arc of love, heartbreak and growth. The Schottenstein Center's website lists the tour dates.
British alternative rock band Wolf Alice opened the evening. Their set included "Don't Delete The Kisses" as the closing number.
The show's spring act opened with the band playing an instrumental version of "drop dead" behind an image of Rodrigo in a bed of pink flowers, and the stage was covered in pink and white flowers for the segment. Rodrigo performed "u + me = <3" with a bouquet she picked from the set, then played "so american" with a pink, heart-shaped guitar and "good 4 u." Pink confetti fell during the opening number.
A summer segment followed, introduced by a golden hue over the arena and a guitar solo. Rodrigo performed "my way" and "serena joy," her Aug. 24 single tied to the Daisy Chain Fields festival she held Aug. 29 in Irvine, California. The festival's website describes it as "founded on [Rodrigo's] belief that joy, community, and creativity can inspire meaningful change." She also played "bad idea, right?" and "ballad of a homeschooled girl" in this portion, then "vampire" and "purple" as the stage darkened.
For the fall segment, Rodrigo began "stupid song" on a secondary stage before returning to the main stage for "maggots for brains," asking the audience to sing the outro with her. She then played the surprise song "pretty isn't pretty," followed by "begged" and "cigarette smoke."
Winter arrived with "honeybee," "favorite crime" and "driver's license," her first single, performed on piano under artificial snow. Rodrigo then moved to a secondary stage for "less," sitting along the barricade and holding hands with fans, and "the cure," during which rain poured down and her dress dissolved to reveal a red bodysuit.
Flowers returned to the main stage for the second spring segment. Rodrigo appeared in a T-shirt reading "Dr. Amy Acton for Governor" while performing "deja vu," then called on attendees to vote and endorsed Acton, the Democratic nominee for Ohio's governor, according to Acton's website. She closed with "all american b" and "expectations."
The evening ended with a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
