476,802. That is the number of ballots submitted in Indiana as of one week before the November 3 election. The figure exceeds the 415,547 ballots cast at the same stage in the 2022 midterm by 61,345. Statewide totals show a clear shift in how residents are casting their votes.
In-person voting drives the increase. Voters cast 405,786 early ballots in person during this period. In 2022, the count stood at 296,792. This represents an approximate one-third rise in foot traffic at polling locations.
Mail-in ballots show the opposite trend. Residents mailed 64,721 ballots this cycle. That is a decline of over 43% from the 113,808 mailed in 2022. The data indicates a move away from absentee voting by mail.
Marion County mirrors the statewide pattern. Residents in the county submitted 13,145 more early votes than they did in 2022. Local mail-in figures also dropped by more than 41% from the previous midterm.
Indianapolis sees a specific surge in in-person activity. Ballots cast in person in the city reached 40,867. That is nearly double the 20,789 recorded in the same period in 2022.
