Georgia has surpassed its previous record for in-person early voting with 2,294,275 ballots cast as of 1:35 p.m. on Thursday. The new total exceeds the 2022 in-person early vote count of 2,289,951 by 4,324 ballots, according to data from the Secretary of State's office.
State Secretary Brad Raffensperger attributed the increase to public confidence in the electoral system. "Georgia residents continue to turn out in record numbers because they trust the system," Raffensperger said. He credited county election officials for maintaining free, fair, and efficient elections through their daily work.
The in-person early voting period runs through Friday, October 30. Separately, state officials accepted 108,251 absentee ballots by 1:35 p.m. on Thursday. When absentee mail-in votes are included, the overall turnout percentage among active voters matches the pace set in 2022.
Polling places will remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Residents can find specific early voting locations and hours for their county on the Secretary of State's My Voter Page website. Real-time turnout figures are available through the state's unofficial election data hub.
The 2022 midterm election set the prior benchmark for in-person early participation. The current cycle has now overtaken that figure with one full day of early voting remaining before the general election.
