Most neighborhoods in Mecklenburg County will receive less than a quarter of an inch of rain as a weak cold front passes through late Wednesday evening. While the mountains to the west have the best chance of accumulating decent rainfall, the Charlotte area and communities to the east are expected to see very little precipitation. Some areas may go without any rain at all.
The weather pattern shifts after a calm Tuesday evening. Temperatures dropped to the mid-60s as polls closed. Wednesday morning brought cooler air, with most of the region waking to temperatures between the upper 40s and lower 50s. By Wednesday afternoon, highs climbed into the mid-70s. The sky became cloudier as moisture moved in from the west.
The front triggered a few showers late Wednesday evening. Additional pockets of rain are possible overnight and into Thursday. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Scattered showers will likely occur in the morning before conditions improve in the evening. Overnight temperatures will fall back to the upper 40s and lower 50s.
Clear skies return by Friday. Residents can expect sunshine and afternoon highs in the 70s. The weekend looks favorable for outdoor activities. Saturday and Sunday will feature a mix of sunshine and comfortable fall temperatures. Highs are generally projected between 70 and 73 degrees. Mornings will be chilly, with temperatures in the 40s.
