Charlotte residents endured a largely dry stretch for nearly three weeks before the first raindrops fell on Wednesday afternoon. The city recorded just 0.03 inches of precipitation over the previous 23 days, but that period ended with light showers moving in around midday. Forecasters expect the heaviest rain to target the mountains and foothills first, with the precipitation spreading into the Piedmont region well after sunset. A few rumbles of thunder are possible, though the likelihood of severe storms remains very low.

Rain will continue in an on-and-off pattern through Thursday and Thursday night. While the day will not be a complete washout, residents should keep umbrellas and rain jackets close at hand. Between shower events, the air will remain warm and muggy, with high temperatures reaching the mid-70s. Friday morning offers the best chance for thunderstorms across the area. Meteorologists note that the current atmospheric setup does not favor a major severe weather threat, but they will continue monitoring the latest trends.

The most likely rainfall totals for the Piedmont region are around half an inch. Areas in the foothills and mountains are expected to receive close to an inch of rain. Once these systems move out, cooler air will settle into the region for the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday are projected to reach the mid to upper 60s, while overnight lows will mostly hold in the 40s.

Dry weather is set to return for the first half of the following week. Temperatures will run slightly above average, reaching the upper 60s and low 70s. The forecast indicates scattered showers and storms for Wednesday night, followed by off-and-on showers on Thursday and early thunderstorms that clear by Friday afternoon.
