Former Vice President Kamala Harris called for expanding the Supreme Court during a town hall in Atlanta on Thursday. The event, held at Elizabeth Baptist Church, focused on the challenges facing voters in the final days before the election. Harris argued that voting alone is no longer enough to address the nation's current direction.

The gathering took place with early voting scheduled to end on Friday. The NAACP organized the session, inviting local and national figures to address the crowd. The speakers emphasized the urgency of the upcoming November 3 Election Day.

Harris stated that the pain felt by many is real, citing recent actions and inactions from the nation's capital. She suggested that structural work is necessary alongside voting to ensure voices are heard. The proposed structural work included expanding the Supreme Court.

Local leaders joined Harris on stage to reinforce the message. Georgia State Conference NAACP President Gwenette Westbrook said the group must get people to the polls. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens described the times as challenging, adding that democracy is at stake.

Congressman Nikema Williams told attendees that their ballots impact their everyday lives and families. He urged voters to look beyond the names on the line and consider the policies at issue. Georgia NAACP Youth and College President Jeremiah Florence added that Georgia has unique power to shape its future.

NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson spoke about the need for systems that compel participation. He noted that the organization is working to keep voters energized between elections. The event served as a final push for the community before the voting period closes.

Harris concluded by suggesting that Georgia has created a roadmap for a new voice in the South. She said that continued activism would force certain people to understand that the South must be invested in. The town hall ended with practical tips for voters, including making a plan for where and when to cast a ballot.
