Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates has stated that his office will seek life sentences for two men indicted in separate fatal incidents. The prosecutions target specific acts of violence that left a child and an elderly woman dead.

The first case involves Tyree Reynolds, 23, who is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Khloe Ishway. Ishway was 12 years old at the time. Prosecutors say Reynolds left 20 rifle cartridge casings at Leon Day Park. Five of those casings struck people, including Ishway, who was an innocent bystander during the shootout.

The second defendant is Montray McCray, 32. He faces charges related to the death of Claudia Bismark, 76. Bismark was killed during a street robbery. Investigators have determined McCray is a trained boxer. Bates noted that a punch from a trained boxer causes more destruction than one from an average individual. McCray allegedly punched another robbery victim in the face three days before the attack on Bismark.

Bates emphasized that the office will not negotiate terms for these cases. "On first degree murder, we are not going to negotiate and we are not giving a number," Bates said. "We will only give these four letters, L-I-F-E. We will give life."

Mayor Brandon Scott joined the push for strict penalties. He described the locations of the attacks as places where citizens should feel safe. Scott called the athletic field a site for a homecoming celebration and the neighborhood street a place for a breakfast outing. "We are sending a clear message that anyone who commits this kind of active, careless, reckless violence will be held accountable," Scott said.

Both defendants are currently facing first-degree murder charges. The city leadership aims to ensure the accused spend the rest of their lives in prison.
